About
The Marquavies Bernard Broughton Foundation, Inc. Turning Pain Into Purpose • Saving One Life at a Time
The Marquavies Bernard Broughton Foundation, Inc. was created in loving memory of Marquavies “Qua” Bernard Broughton, a vibrant 21-year-old whose life was tragically taken by a nitazene poisoning — the first confirmed nitazene death in Gwinnett County. His mother, Frederica Roberson, transformed unimaginable loss into a powerful mission: to educate, advocate, and save lives across Georgia and beyond.
Rooted in compassion and community, the foundation provides awareness, prevention, family support, harm-reduction advocacy, and youth outreach with a focus on emerging synthetic drugs like nitazenes that are impacting communities at alarming rates.
Our Mission
To raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl, nitazenes, and other synthetic opioids; support families affected by substance use and overdose; expand harm-reduction access; and advocate for policy changes that improve education, treatment, and community support.
What We Do
Community Education & Awareness: School presentations, community workshops, and partner events focused on drug safety, prevention, and real-life stories that resonate.
Harm-Reduction Support: Distribution of Narcan (naloxone), resources, and training to empower families and community members to save lives.
Family & Grief Support: Compassionate support for families impacted by overdose, offering connection, guidance, and healing through shared experience.
Youth Outreach: Honest conversations with teens and young adults about peer pressure, substance risks, and making safer choices.
Advocacy & Policy Work: Championing change through initiatives like Qua’s Law, aimed at improving toxicology detection and accountability for synthetic opioid distribution.
