About
Mending the Gap, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2010 with a mission to keep seniors
Healthy, Independent, and Connected. The organization goes beyond meeting immediate needs by nurturing
long-term well-being, reducing social isolation, and fostering relationships that help older adults with limited
income and resources age with dignity and purpose.
We currently serve close to 700 low-income seniors (ages 60 and older) throughout Gwinnett County,
Georgia, through five key programs designed to improve quality of life and promote independence.
Save Our Seniors (SOS) program provides monthly deliveries of nutritious food—including meat, fresh produce, and
Ensure meal replacements—along with household essentials, cleaning supplies, personal care items,
incontinence products, and pet food, all at no cost to participants. Proper nutrition is a critical concern for our
clients, 90% of whom live below the Federal Poverty Line. We also provide pet food because many seniors
prioritize feeding their companions over themselves.
Be a Friend program combats loneliness and isolation by connecting volunteers with seniors through bi-weekly friendly
calls, letters, and occasionally home visits. At least sixty percent of our clients participate in this program. In
addition, we host monthly social gatherings where seniors can engage in fun activities, connect with peers and
access community resources.
Bridge Program builds intergenerational connections by partnering with schools and youth organizations.
These interactions allow seniors to share their experiences and wisdom while helping young people develop
respect and appreciation for older generations. Both groups benefit from a stronger sense of belonging and
understanding.
Connect2Connect program addresses home safety and maintenance needs through partnerships with community home repair ministries. Seniors receive assistance with minor home repairs, deep cleaning, furniture setup, and yard
work—services that help them remain safely in their homes.
Our newest initiative, Digital Literacy Support, helps seniors develop essential technology skills so they can
stay connected, participate in virtual events, and access important online resources. This program empowers
older adults to remain informed and engaged in today’s digital world.
Through these initiatives, Mending the Gap, Inc. is creating a supportive network that strengthens physical,
emotional, and social well-being for hundreds of vulnerable seniors in our community—ensuring that none are
left behind.
