On August 1, Downtown Lawrenceville won't feel like an outdoor museum. It'll feel like a neighborhood gathering with 250 years of stories woven into every block.
America 250: Celebrating Our Journey transforms familiar landmarks into places of discovery, inviting residents to move from one experience to the next instead of staying in one spot all day. Hosted through a partnership between the City of Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County Government, the Gwinnett County Public Library, and the Lawrenceville Arts Center, the free celebration uses the city itself as the stage.
History comes alive inside the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse with a mock signing of the Declaration of Independence, while the nearby Hooper-Renwick Library explores everything from Revolutionary War genealogy to Gullah Geechee culture. Across town, the Lawrenceville Female Seminary offers interactive American Revolution activities and hands-on experiences that invite visitors to participate rather than simply observe.
The Lawrenceville Arts Center keeps the momentum going with chamber music from the Lawrenceville Symphony Orchestra, musical theatre presented by Aurora Theatre, and dance performances from Southern Ballet Theatre. Together, the day's programming reflects the many voices, traditions, and experiences that continue shaping the community today.
A Celebration Built Around Community
One of the smartest parts of the event is how naturally it encourages people to experience Downtown Lawrenceville itself. Between scheduled activities, visitors have plenty of opportunities to browse local boutiques, enjoy lunch at a neighborhood restaurant, grab dessert, or simply linger on the square before heading to the next stop.

Free admission, more than 1,200 nearby parking spaces through EZ-2 Park, complimentary shuttles connecting event locations, and designated road closures make it easier for visitors to spend less time worrying about logistics and more time enjoying the day.
