Dig Into a Good Book!
Summer in Gwinnett can feel like a full-time logistics project, with camps, snacks, pool gear, and endless to-do lists competing for attention. The Gwinnett County Public Library offers a simpler challenge: read a good book, track your progress, and earn a chance to win prizes along the way.
The library’s Summer Reading Challenge 2026, “Unearth a Story,” runs through July 21 and welcomes readers of all ages, from kids sounding out their first big words to adults who still believe a good book counts as an excellent evening plan. Participants can log the minutes they spend reading through Beanstack or use a paper reading log, which is especially handy for families who prefer crayons, fridge magnets, and a little old-school accountability.
Reading With Rewards
This year’s theme has a dino-sized sense of fun, and the prizes make the challenge feel more like a countywide treasure hunt than a homework assignment. As readers hit milestones, they can earn rewards that include books, dinosaur-themed prizes, Aurora Children’s Theatre passes, Gwinnett Stripers tickets, and entries into grand prize drawings.
There is also a weekly brag-tag situation, which is exactly the kind of small, collectible victory kids understand immediately. Readers can collect limited-edition weekly brag tags by checking out books at participating library branches throughout the summer. In other words, a library visit can now come with both a fresh stack of books and something to clip, trade, admire, or proudly explain to anyone within listening distance.
A Good Reason to Leave the House
The challenge is also a reminder that Gwinnett’s library branches are not just quiet places with excellent air conditioning, though that is certainly a summer perk. Throughout the season, the library is offering free events and activities, giving families an easy reason to visit their local branch between pool days, grocery runs, and the annual “we need something to do that does not cost $80” conversation.
For Gwinnett families, "Unearth a Story" offers a low-pressure way to keep reading on the calendar and keep summer from turning into one long screen scroll. The best part is that there is still time to join.
