The Class of 2026 offers a snapshot of that mission in action. Graduates earned more than $302.6 million in scholarships, nearly 5,000 crossed the stage as honor graduates, and more than 8,100 students challenged themselves through Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate coursework. While 78% plan to continue their education, hundreds of classmates are pursuing technical training, apprenticeships, military service, and careers, reflecting a district that measures success by helping students discover the path that's right for them.
Academic achievement is only part of the story. Gwinnett County Public Schools also emphasizes critical thinking, leadership, resilience, and real-world skills that prepare students long after graduation day. Every diploma represents years of encouragement from teachers who help students grow in confidence as much as knowledge.
Educators Who Make a Difference
The district's investment in exceptional teaching is reflected in Dr. Candice Richardson, who was named the 2027 Gwinnett County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. As a biology educator at the Gwinnett InterVention Education (GIVE) Center East, Richardson creates learning experiences that help students understand why their education matters while encouraging them to pursue their goals with confidence. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom through mentoring fellow educators and developing an attendance initiative that increased student engagement across campus.
Richardson's recognition highlights the work taking place throughout Gwinnett County Public Schools. Every campus celebrates its own Teacher of the Year, honoring educators who inspire curiosity, encourage perseverance, and help students reach milestones that once seemed out of reach. Those daily efforts shape graduates who are prepared not only to earn diplomas, but to contribute to the communities they call home.
As another school year begins, the district is also entering a new chapter with new Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella. Bringing more than 30 years of experience in public education, including leadership roles in Connecticut and New York City Public Schools, Estrella steps into a district already recognized for academic excellence and student achievement. Her focus on strengthening schools, supporting educators, and expanding opportunities builds on the work already happening in classrooms across Gwinnett County Public Schools, where preparing students for lifelong success remains the goal.
