Good Deeds, Great Days
A few hours can disappear pretty quickly on an October weekend. Gwinnett Great Days of Service offers another option: spend those hours doing something that leaves the county a little better than you found it.
Gwinnett Great Days of Service returns October 16–18, bringing residents, nonprofits, schools and community groups together for three days of volunteer projects across the county.
The needs are as varied as Gwinnett itself. Projects support hunger relief, education, environmental efforts, housing stability, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities. Some require particular skills. Plenty simply require showing up ready to help.
That accessibility is part of what makes the weekend work. Individuals can volunteer alone, families can turn service into something they do together, and clubs or other groups can make a project their weekend plan.
Three Days, Plenty of Ways to Help
Volunteers can browse current Great Days of Service opportunities and register online, choosing projects that fit their interests and availability.
Students have an extra reason to look. Participation can count toward service hours for school or leadership programs, which turns an obligation that sometimes feels abstract into work benefiting the community where they actually live.
Last year offers some perspective on what those individual hours can become. Great Days of Service completed 91 unique projects across Gwinnett, logged nearly 3,564 volunteer hours and collected 12,755 donated items.
A Saturday morning here and a few hours there add up surprisingly fast.
Beyond One Weekend
For anyone who discovers they would rather make volunteering a habit, Volunteer Gwinnett connects residents with both one-time events and longer-term opportunities throughout the year.
That may be the best part of Great Days of Service. Community service can sound like something requiring a committee, a free month or a heroic amount of spare time. This weekend makes the entry point considerably simpler.
Pick a cause. Find a project. Give a few hours.
You might meet neighbors you would never otherwise cross paths with, help an organization tackle something it could not manage alone and still make it home before dinner.
