Gwinnett County Public Schools: Where Learning and Community Grow Together
Step into Gwinnett County Public Schools, and you’ll see a district alive with curiosity, talent, and ambition. With nearly 179,000 students across 142 schools, GCPS is Georgia’s largest school system, but every classroom feels personal. About 24,000 educators and staff guide students from their first days in elementary school to high school graduation, making sure each child has the chance to explore, grow, and succeed.
GCPS focuses on preparing students for the future, whether that means college, career, or life beyond the classroom. Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education programs give students pathways into high-demand fields, while AP courses and dual-enrollment options let ambitious learners get a head start on college. Early learning initiatives and dual-language programs make sure younger students build strong foundations, and academy programs in high schools offer specialized experiences that prepare teens for the next step. Outside the classroom, GCPS students win state championships, national scholarships, and accolades in areas ranging from robotics and coding to arts and music.
Diversity and community are at the heart of GCPS. Students come from 183 countries and speak 114 languages. More than 61 percent are economically disadvantaged, and the district supports them with resources like Cafe Gwinnett, which served over 30 million meals last year, including 2.5 million pounds of locally grown produce. Staff also thrive in a supportive environment, with GCPS recognized as one of the best employers in the region and named a top employer for women by Forbes. Graduation rates are at a decade high, scholarships exceeded $220 million, and students earned honors from programs ranging from U.S. Presidential Scholars to Gates Scholars.
All of this adds up to more than achievements and programs. GCPS is part of the county’s heartbeat. Every classroom, lab, and athletic field reflects Gwinnett’s energy, diversity, and drive. The district shapes students into thinkers, creators, and leaders while keeping learning personal, meaningful, and connected to real life. From young learners taking their first steps in school to graduates earning scholarships and awards, GCPS proves that education in Gwinnett County opens doors, sparks opportunity, and builds a stronger community for everyone.
