Summer concert season has one more song left in it, and Peachtree Corners isn’t exactly planning a quiet exit. On Saturday, Aug. 29, the city closes its Summer Concert Series with Passing the Torch: Tribute to Whitney Houston, a free evening built around one of pop music’s most recognizable voices.
The concert runs from 7 to 10 p.m. on the Vox Stage at the Town Green, giving Gwinnett one final outdoor show before summer calendars start surrendering to fall. And yes, attempting to sing along with Whitney Houston in public is ambitious. Consider yourself warned.
A Voice Worth Celebrating
The evening’s headliner is Melanie Amaro, winner of the first season of The X Factor USA. Amaro will perform songs from Houston’s catalog while weaving personal memories into the tribute, including the story of meeting Houston herself.
That personal connection gives Passing the Torch more weight than the average tribute show. Houston’s catalog has remained part of the cultural soundtrack for decades, with the sort of songs people recognize within a few notes. Hearing them outdoors with a hometown crowd adds another layer to an evening already designed for collective nostalgia.
Live music begins at 7 p.m., with Amaro’s headlining tribute expected to start around 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. The concert takes place at the Peachtree Corners Town Green, located at 5140 Town Center Boulevard.

Parking is also free. Concertgoers can use the Town Center Parking Deck, available spaces along Town Center streets or designated lots off Davinci Court. Those skipping the parking shuffle can use rideshare drop-off and pickup at The Piedmont Bank on Peachtree Parkway.
The practical details matter, but the real draw is the chance to gather at the Town Green one more time before the season wraps. Outdoor concerts have become part of Peachtree Corners’ warm-weather routine, turning a patch of green space into a shared neighborhood venue where dinner, lawn chairs and live music can occupy the same evening.
Passing the Torch sends that routine out with considerable vocal firepower. After a summer of gathering on the lawn, Peachtree Corners is closing with familiar songs, a big voice and one last excuse to stay out late.
For a finale honoring Whitney Houston, anything less would feel a little underpowered.
