Labor Day weekend hits Gwinnett hard: fireworks over Stone Mountain, the Stripers' final home stand, a sunrise 5K in Dacula, rooftop pours in Peachtree Corners, and comedy in Sugar Hill, all with no interstate required.

From Thursday, September 3, through Labor Day itself on September 7, there's enough happening across the county that picking just one plan might be the hardest part of the weekend. Consider this your cheat sheet for making the most of summer's last hurrah.

Fireworks, Baseball, and a Finish Line

The main event runs September 5-7 at Stone Mountain Park's Labor Day Weekend Celebration, where family attractions stay open late each night before the free nightly Lasershow and an extended fireworks finale send summer off in style. It's the kind of night where lawn chairs, popcorn, and a view of the mountain do most of the work.

A few other ways to spend the weekend:

• Catch the Gwinnett Stripers close out their six-game home series against the Charlotte Knights at Coolray Field before it wraps September 6. Grab a seat, order a hot dog, and settle in for one of the last home games before fall schedules take over.
• Lace up for the Dirty Spokes Labor Day 5K on Saturday, September 5, a USATF-certified course winding through Little Mulberry Park's paved trails in Dacula. Early risers get shaded trails and a finish line before most of the county has poured its first cup of coffee.

The Weekend Actually Starts Thursday

If you want to get an early start on the fun, there’s need to wait until Friday. The Labor Day Weekend Kick-off Rooftop Social at Roam Peachtree Corners opens the holiday early on Thursday, September 3, with panoramic views and pours from Renegade Lemonade Wine to toast the unofficial start of the long weekend.

That same evening, comedy fans can head to The Eagle Theatre in Sugar Hill, where Dad's Garage brings their fast-paced improv comedy show to town. Expect quick wit, audience suggestions turned into scenes on the spot, and the kind of laughs that make a Thursday night feel like a Friday.

Whether the plan involves fireworks, a ballgame, a morning race, or a rooftop toast, the final long weekend of summer gives Gwinnett plenty of reasons to skip the road trip and stay put. With this much on the calendar, the hardest decision is figuring out where to start!
