Sugar Hill is Getting Saucy!
Sugar Hill is getting a little smokier on Oct. 3, when Taste of BBQ brings a full day of ribs, vendors, family activities and community fundraising to its new Gwinnett home.
A New Home for a Familiar Festival
The Taste of BBQ Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Sugar Hill, marking a move from its previous location in Suwanee.
The formula is straightforward and appropriately hungry. BBQ anchors the day, with sample tickets available separately for purchase, while admission to the festival itself is free. That leaves plenty of room to wander between bites, browse local vendors and check out the artist market without feeling like the entire afternoon has to revolve around one plate.
Families get their own built-in reason to stay awhile, thanks to a family fun zone with activities for children of all ages. In other words, parents can make a second lap through the BBQ offerings while the kids have something else to do besides ask when it is time to leave.
Good Food, Good Cause
The festival also comes with a community connection. Proceeds benefit Project Green, a local nonprofit foundation focused on children.
That gives Taste of BBQ a little more weight than the average fall food event. A day spent sampling barbecue, shopping local vendors and keeping the kids entertained also helps support an organization serving children in the community.
For Gwinnett residents, the move to Sugar Hill adds another sizable fall event to a downtown already accustomed to drawing crowds for concerts, festivals and community gatherings. The timing helps too. Early October is prime territory for the kind of outdoor day that works best with comfortable weather, something smoky on a plate and nowhere in particular to be for a few hours.
The only difficult decision may be pacing. BBQ has a way of encouraging bad math, especially when “just one more sample” starts sounding perfectly reasonable.
