Turn Off the Tap, Turn Up the Savings

Turn Off the Tap, Turn Up the Savings

A lot of home maintenance comes down to small things most of us never learned how to do: A faucet that drips a little longer than it should. Cleaning supplies and old chemicals lingering in the garage because no one is quite sure where they are supposed to go. The good news is that Gwinnett County’s Department of Water Resources is offering a few simple workshops this spring that help make those everyday home questions a lot easier to solve.

The sessions are designed to be practical and approachable, focusing on the kinds of tasks homeowners run into all the time. Useful information that can help you manage your home a little more efficiently while keeping waste out of local waterways.

Practical Workshops for Around the House

This spring’s lineup focuses on two common areas where a little know-how can go a long way: finding leaks and disposing of household chemicals safely.

Upcoming sessions include:

  • Fix-a-Leak Workshop
March 21 | Rhodes Jordan Community Center
Learn how to spot hidden leaks in faucets, toilets, irrigation systems, and other common trouble spots around the house. The session also covers simple repairs and easy ways to monitor water use.
  • Fix-a-Leak Workshop
     March 31 | Snellville Library
A second opportunity to learn the same leak-detecting skills and maintenance tips that help keep water bills and household waste in check.
  • Household Hazardous Waste Management Workshop
April 9 | Lilburn City Hall
This session focuses on how to properly handle and dispose of items like old cleaners, automotive fluids, paint products, and other household chemicals so they do not end up in the trash or local waterways.

These workshops are part of a broader effort by the county to help residents understand how small household habits affect water conservation and environmental health. Just as important, they make home maintenance feel far less mysterious.

You don’t need to be particularly handy to benefit. Most of the tips revolve around awareness and a few simple tools. Many participants walk away realizing that the fixes they have been putting off are easier than expected.

And while the workshops focus on practical skills, they also serve as a reminder that a well-maintained home often comes down to paying attention to the details.
